Kali Self Defence Classes

With the ever-growing violence on the streets of Australia today and the rise of crime and theft involving weapons, this progressive style of Martial Art becomes increasingly more important in today's society. Kali Silat (a form of Filipino stick & knife fighting combined with the powerful skills and fitness of Kickboxing) teaches us the etiquette, dangers and legalities involved with a wide range of weapons and combative situations. This dynamic yet graceful flowing art will show even the smallest of defendants how to safely and easily avoid or disarm an attacker with little or no effort. Suited for women and men alike, the fitness and confidence gained through the set drills and techniques of training will inspire and excite all.

Kali Self Defence classes incorporate tactics and strategies from Kali Silat Evolution and other world-renowned disciplines. These training concepts are composed of several sub-systems:

·      Panantukan (Filipino Boxing): which includes techniques and strategies taken from Western Boxing. Panantukan includes elbows strikes, guntings, foot sweeps, and foot trapping, making the art a special and effective form of Boxing.

·      Sikaran (Filipino Kickboxing): completes the Panantukan System with additional hand and kicking techniques. Sikaran is recognized by it’s movements. The fighter is trained in zoning and controlling distance, hence making it perfect for Self Defence. With this training the fighter has the opportunity to use a wide range of kicking techniques.

·      Doble Baston (Double Sticks): best known by the Martial Arts community for the extensive combat use of sticks or machetes by the Filipino Warrior (Mandirigma). Stick fighting training is important in the development of empty hand skills. Any development in stick training leads to an immediate improvement in appropriate body position, distance from an opponent and the empty hand aspects of Kali Silat.

·      Solo Baston (Single Stick): a form of blunt forced weapons and sword training. Usually performed with a rattan stick aimed at familiarizing students with blade orientation and improvised weapons.

·      Daga (Knife Defence): a knife fighting defence system, known as a specialty of the Filipino Martial Arts. Filipino knife fighting techniques have influenced Police and Military Knife Defence Strategies all over the World.

·      Espada Y Daga (Sword and Dagger): a close range form of sword fighting developed in the Philippines. Traditional used with a long and short sword or daga, the progressive techniques taught in our Kali Silat system are interchangeable with many empty hand applications.

·      Kadena De Mano (Close Quarter Fighter): by using hands, elbows, head butts, and knees in training, the flow of this technique is very important. Kadena De Mano is a realistic method of Self Defence when there’s no space to move and no way to escape. The methodology here is to Crash the Line of attack.

·      Bankaw (6” Bo Staff): another extension of our Kali Self Defence curriculum. Range and positioning is very important when confronted with a long weapon of any kind. The concepts with Bankaw will teach hand positioning, flow, range of distance and angles, whilst learning the dexterity required to wield largo weapons.

·      Dumog (Filipino Grappling): Includes throws, takedowns, immobilization and submission. Learning to react in a ground situation is a very important aspect of any system of Self Defence.

·      Silat (Indonesian Fighting Art): an integrated system of fighting developed in and around Indonesia and Malaysia that includes street fighting and other overkill strategies.
